Tabula Rasa

Tabula Rasa means a clean slate. Both Aristotle & John Locke (English philosopher & Father of Liberalism) refer to a child's brain as a clean slate and use the term Tabula Rasa for the same.

I first came across this term in school when a teacher repeated Aristotle & Locke's ideas and it stuck. Not because it applies to me but because it kinda set an idea in motion. That is to keep a clean mind to absorb more knowledge and understand the society, world, and universe... we live in. Though a child's brain is considered a clean slate, one (grown-ups/Adults) can always try and keep their mind free of any preconceived notions. This enables an objective understanding of the happenings in our surroundings and leads to a fair decision. Why have I embarked on a lecture on Tabula Rasa/clean slate/ free mind? Because often our crowded, clouded mind leads to misunderstandings with our near and dear ones.Till next time, Chiao.
